How it is computed

The score, in one line.

Score = the share of the fourteen conditions below that are true on the last completed close, from 0 to 100 in steps of about 7. Every condition is a plain fact about the daily chart.

  1. Close above its 20-day average
  2. Close above its 50-day average
  3. Close above its 200-day average
  4. 50-day average above the 200-day
  5. 50-day average higher than 10 sessions ago
  6. 200-day average higher than 20 sessions ago
  7. Within 15% of the 52-week high
  8. At least 30% above the 52-week low
  9. 3-month change ahead of SPY
  10. 6-month change ahead of SPY
  11. Lowest low of the last 10 sessions above the 10 before
  12. More volume on up days than down days, last 20 sessions
  13. 1-month change above zero
  14. Close in the upper half of its 20-day range

What it does not tell you: whether a move continues. Nothing here has been measured against future returns, so the score is a description of the chart, never a rating of the stock. How the trend score works.

Left out on purpose:

  • Premarket and after-hours movers: needs an extended-hours feed with display rights, none is held.
  • Intraday charts and timeframes under a day: needs a licensed intraday display feed.
  • Headlines as move reasons: news text is licensed, so a mover links to the company filing on sec.gov instead.
  • Analyst ratings and estimates: licensed data, never republished.
